I love making my kids green smoothies because it’s great for their gut health (lots of greens/veggies), it’s the perfect energy booster, and it’s a such an easy recipe to make!
When I first started making green smoothies for myself a long time ago my kids would always be curious as to what I was drinking but they never wanted to actually try some. I mean, come on… it’s green looking. It just didn’t look appetizing to them. I then realized that to get them to drink a green smoothie they had to be part of the making process first! Kids enjoy helping in the kitchen, they find it fun and “everything” taste better when you are helping mom cook! 🙂
Many years later they still enjoy their green smoothies and I do change up the ingredients here and there. They drink a green smoothie 2-3 times a week. This really helps keep them regular and their sugary/snack cravings go away for the most part. I have so many green smoothie recipes and my husband is just as obsess with my recipes as much as the kids are! Take a look at the recipe below. If you would like me to post more recipes let me know.
4 cups of spinach
1 1/2 crushed ice
1 tsp Chia seeds
1 freshly squeezed lemon or lime
2 Tbsp of raw honey or coconut sugar
1 cup of frozen berries
1 cup of Almond milk
*Optional: After church my kids were not very hungry since we had a late breakfast and they asked for a green smoothie instead or having a typical lunch (every Mother’s dream right?!). So in order to make it a full meal “replacement” I added a scoop of a vegan vanilla protein powder. My kids were happy and satisfied for many hours after drinking a large cup of this delicious green smoothie! If you have a picky eater try this recipe and don’t be surprised if your child starts requesting green smoothies on a daily basis ;).
