On Instagram, I shared one of my goals for 2019 with all of you. I want to help you achieve the best skin of your life! Makeup and facials play a big part in my life and both are very important to me but nothing will give you better results than beautifying your skin from the inside out. Raise your hand if you want long lasting results!
TRUST ME. I have tried it all. I have had to deal with acne, sun damage, scars, and the latest thing… getting older! I will talk about all the other skin issues later and how I cured each one (for the most part) but today we are going to talk about the most amazing anti aging supplement: COLLAGEN.
During the time when my skin was temperamental and sensitive to everything, I started seeing other changes too. My skin wasn’t as bouncy.. the elasticity in my skin wasn’t the same anymore (that’s a nice way of saying that my skin was starting to sag!). It wasn’t noticeable to others but I started to realize that I was starting to AGE! Something that was bound to happen of course. It’s only natural. My whole life I have been looking forward to getting older and my goal has always been to age in the most graceful way possible. Yes, I know I mention this in almost all of my skin related blog posts here on K&J Diaries but it’s true!
Finally my wish had come true, I was getting older. But how do I slow down time and slow down the aging process? Funny how that’s the question that came to mind when I turned 28. I am now 30 years old by the way, and I’m truly the happiest I have ever been. Many things have happened, many changes have been made in order to get here but more on “happiness in your 30’s” in a separate post in the near future. One of the main reasons why I feel so confident now is because I have learned how to take care of my skin from the inside out. Collagen is a natural alternative to botox! Not that I am against botox. But even if you have had it done… adding collagen to your diet and living a healthy lifestyle will serve you well.
What is Collagen:
Our bodies produce collagen. In fact, collagen is a pretty big deal. Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. Type 1 collagen is found in muscles, bones, skin, blood, digestive system, tendons, and vessels. I read this online once and it stuck with me: “When it comes to our joints and tendons, collage is the “glue that helps hold the body together”. Wait, there is more. Collagen in going to strengthen the skin elasticity and replace dead skin cells (tell me you are already hooked!).
As we get older our collagen productions naturally slows down and we start seeing changes in our bodies like joint pains, wrinkles, and sagging skin. If you have a very unhealthy lifestyle it will definitely take a toll on the loss of collagen. I’m talking about smoking, high amounts of sun exposure (stop tanning so much), and a high sugar diet. Thanks goodness for collagen supplements. I will list a few options a the bottom of this post but first let’s take a look at the benefits.
- Reduces line and wrinkles
- Improve skin dryness
- Great for your joints
- Amazing for healthy hair growth
- Reduces cellulite and stretch marks
- Helps heal leaky gut
- Boosts metabolism
- Boosts muscle mass
- Strengthens nails, and teeth
- Improves liver heath
Bone broth- Home made is best. I want to make an entire post about bone broth soon. The benefits are life changing for anyone who has any type of gut issue.
Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides– Mixes well with everything. It dissolves in cold and hot beverages. It has no flavor which is awesome. Add it to your protein shake, tea, water or smoothie. It’s such an easy way to consume collagen.
Beef Gelatin Collagen– Same benefits as the option above but this one works best with hot liquids. It will give your drink the most amazing froth. This grass-fed, pasture-raised gelatin powder will be great for your digestive health.
Beauty Collagen– It’s yummy and healthy! Make an organic strawberry lemon drink and enjoy the amazing benefits of Hyaluronic Acid, probiotics and collagen peptides. I like to add fresh squeezed lemon.
Collagen Fuel Vanilla Coconut– Seriously delicious. All the benefits of collagen with a sweet (not too sweet) coconut Flavor. Made with only clean ingredients, no sugar, no dairy. This is the one I have been using daily for the past 3 weeks. You guys have seen me use it on Instagram stories and asked for the link so here you go!
The options that I listed are products I have actually use and consume on the daily. I alternate between them but I swear by all of them! I tried to keep this post as simple and short as possible but I could write so much more! If you are interested let me know. I am happy to share everything I have learned in the last couple of years.
ps: What a difference self tanners make eh? 🙂 I couldn’t handle my pale skin anymore. Let me know what your favorite self tanner is and if it works for people with sensitive skin!
